Company vehicles and transport

  1. Make sure all users of company vehicles complete a travel diary with details of the journey and the mileage covered. If necessary, provide incentives to encourage this practice until it becomes embedded.
  2. Develop a travel plan for the business to encompass all aspects of travel.
  3. Encourage all users of company vehicles to plan individual journeys in advance to make sure the route used is the shortest and most economic.
  4. Develop an incentive programme for company drivers (that is consistent with safe driving) that rewards frugal fuel use. Rewards could include vouchers, additional leave or cash prizes and should be structured to ensure all drivers have an equal chance of success.
  5. Encourage employees to use public transport when travelling on company business. If travelling to major centres and outside peak hours, trains can be exceptionally good value and comfortable, allowing employees to work whilst travelling (unlike in a car).
